When do you tend to overeat, slack off on your exercise, or are drawn into total inaction?
I have found that when I am emotionally negative, such as grumpy, anxious, stressed, or angry, I will tend toward less productive behaviors that don’t move me towards my goal. It is in a negative state when I don’t exercise, overeat, or sit wistfully in front of the TV while time passes me by.
I don’t want to jam a load of positive thinking mumbo jumbo down your throat, but I want you to consider how your emotions can affect you.
I believe that our emotions are a reaction to our mindsets and by bringing them into the positive; we can begin to gain the mindset we need to move forward in our goals.
How do we do this?
- Be grateful. When I am working out or driving to work in the mornings, I try to think of all the things in my life I am grateful for 3 to 5 minutes. If you think you have nothing to be grateful for, be grateful that you are able to read the words on this page, you are breathing, and that you are alive in this moment.
- Overwhelm the negative with the positive. When I find myself sinking into a negative mindset, I start to consider all the positive events in my life. If that doesn’t work, then I start saying positive affirmations to myself. While affirmations alone won’t get you what you want in life, they can help you to focus on the positive actions you are taking to move forward.
- Remember that negativity can be your mind’s way of protecting you from pain. So write down how this negativity is your mind’s way of protecting you from pain and reassure yourself that sometimes it takes a little effort to get what you want from life.
Your emotions are an effect of your mindset, so if you start to change your emotions, you can start to change your mindset as well.
Start focusing on your emotions today, because tomorrow we are going to look at the greatest moment in your life.
