Limitations? What Limitations?

I know many smart people that are having an amazingly difficult time in this economy. They have either lost their jobs or are struggling to keep their client base healthy. They bemoan to me that they are unable to do what they want to do because they either don’t know how, don’t have the resources, or don’t have the energy to move forward towards the life they have always wanted to live.

Why not?

For all of those smart people that are struggling, there is someone out there that is getting their dream job, starting a successful business, or attracting more clients than they can handle. They are happy, because they have the resources and energy to live the life of their dreams.

What is the difference?

The people that are doing well are ignorant and if you want to be more successful, then you need to be more ignorant as well.

Stop! I don’t want you thinking that I am telling you do go out and start a business that you know nothing about. What I trying to get across is, that many people who are successful in a venture, often didn’t know about limitations that could have stopped them.

A Story of Not Knowing Limitations

Jack Canfield tells a story in The Success Principles of how he submitted a story from Chicken Soup for the Soul to a parenting magazine for publication. The editor of the magazine responded by telling him that he was enraged that he had not followed the proper protocol for submitting an article, but enjoyed the article so much that he would publish it anyway. The editor then went on to educate Jack about how to properly communicate with people in the industry.

Jack wasn’t limited by the fact that he didn’t know how to submit an article, but he did it anyway. It was a good article, so he got it published and in the process, learned the correct way to engage people in that industry. Jack’s story is one that is repeated time and time again by successful authors, speakers, coaches, and business owners. When asked why they conducted business in the way they did, they say, “I didn’t know that I wasn’t supposed to do it that way.”

What Limitations Can You Ignore?

What limitations can you ignore today? Is there a potential client that you are not big enough to call on? Is there someone you need advice from that is too famous to reach out to? Ignore the limitations you have created and give it a shot. What do you have to lose?
